Disney executive who led company response to Fla. bill leaves position after just 3 months
Departing chief corporate affairs officer says job was "not the right fit."
The Disney executive who helped the company develop its response to Florida's parental rights bill has left his position after just three months on the job, according to media reports.
Geoff Morrell, who as corporate affairs chief led the company in its ill-fated response to the Florida bill that critics labeled "Don't Say Gay," called the job "not the right fit" in a letter to his team obtained by media outlets.
"After talking this over with [Disney CEO] Bob [Chapek], I have decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities," he said.
Morrell's efforts to line the company up against the bill have arguably backfired. The law in question gives parents more transparency into children's educations and forbids the discussion of sexual material with very young students.
Following Disney's criticism of the law, Florida Republicans led by Gov. Ron DeSantis stripped Disney of special privileges the company has enjoyed in that state for several decades.
