Biden admits he's 'not confident at all' there would be a peaceful transfer of power if Trump loses
“If Trump wins, no, I’m not confident at all. I mean if Trump loses I’m not confident at all,” Biden said. "He means what he says. We don't take him seriously. He means it. All the stuff about 'If we lose, there'll be a bloodbath, it'll have been a stolen [election].'"
President Joe Biden admitted in a clip on Wednesday that he is not "confident at all" that there would be a peaceful transition of power this January if former President Donald Trump loses the 2024 election.
Biden, who has dropped his bid for reelection and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, previously expressed concern that Trump would incite another January 6 riot, where hundreds of Trump's supporters entered the Capitol building to block the certification of the results of the 2020 election.
The president's comments occurred during his first on-camera interview since dropping from the presidential race, which occurred with CBS Sunday Mornings.
“If Trump wins, no, I’m not confident at all. I mean if Trump loses I’m not confident at all,” Biden said in a clip of the interview. "He means what he says. We don't take him seriously. He means it. All the stuff about 'If we lose, there'll be a bloodbath, it'll have been a stolen [election].'"
"Look what they're trying to do now in the local election districts where people count the votes," he continued. "You can't love your country only when you win."
The bloodbath comment was a reference to remarks Trump made in March about the economic fallout of U.S. trade policy for the auto industry.
Trump was also asked if he would accept the results of the 2024 election during a presidential debate in June, to which Trump responded "if it's a fair and legal and good election."
"I tell you what, I doubt you'll accept it because you're such a whiner," Biden fired back in the debate. "The idea if you lose again, you accepting anything, you can't stand the loss, something snapped in you when you lost the last time."
The full CBS interview, conducted by the outlet's chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa, will air on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. Eastern.
