Biden on Trump: 'You're fired' isn't 'something to be laughed about' where 'I was raised'

President Biden attacked his 2024 presidential election opponent, former President Trump and his signature "You're fired" slogan from his days hosting "The Apprentice" on NBC in a speech to union workers on Friday.

"They learned and my opponent learned the best way to get rich is inherited. I can't argue much with that," Biden said at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers construction and maintenance conference in Washington, D.C.

"They learn to pay taxes is for working people, not the super wealthy. They learned that telling the people you're fired is something to be laughed about. Now where I come from, not where I was raised," he added.

Biden specifically criticized Trump's tax cuts that he signed in 2017, which included a corporate income tax reduction.

"I guess that's how they look at the world on Park Avenue and Mar-a-Lago, but I grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania and Claymont, Delaware, working class and middle class towns," Biden said. "Nobody handed you anything. You paid your taxes and being told you were fired wasn't entertainment. It was a devastating nightmare to a family."

Biden argued that Trump's tax reform disproportionately benefitted wealthy Americans and the "biggest corporations."

Republicans counter that argument by saying the corporate tax cuts made America more competitive with other developed nations' tax systems and that the bill cut income tax rates across-the-board.
