Cook Political Report shifts six House races toward Democrats and two toward Republicans
The six races that are shifting to the left are currently in California, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas.
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report shifted the labels of eight House races on Friday, with six of the races leaning more toward Democrats and two more toward Republicans.
Republicans are currently trying to hold onto their four-seat majority in the House this November, but a surge of enthusiasm for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee has threatened to upset races down ballot.
The six races that are shifting to the left are currently in California, Florida, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas.
Two of the races are held by Republicans, Don Bacon in Nebraska and Michelle Steel in California. Both races have been moved from "lean Republican" to "toss up."
Three of the races, held by Democrats Jared Moskowitz in Florida, Marcy Kaptur in Ohio, and Henry Cuellar in Texas, have shifted further to the left, and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks' race in Iowa has been labeled "lean Republican" instead of "likely Republican."
"House Democrats continue to build momentum and grassroots enthusiasm across the country, while House GOP incumbents and candidates continue to fall flat on their faces," Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesperson Viet Shelton said in a statement, per Fox News.
The races that have trended further to the right are Lauren Boebert's current seat in Colorado that she is vacating, which is now considered "likely Republican," and Alaska's Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola’s seat shifting to a "toss up" from likely Democrat.
Another projection, Sabato's Crystal Ball, has shifted the Montana Senate race between incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and newcomer Tim Sheehy from "toss up" to "lean Republican."
