Democratic convention opening press credential process to social media influencers for first time
Credentialed influencers will have a chance to interview campaign surrogates and VIP guest speakers at the Democratic National Convention
The Democratic National Convention will allow social media influences to apply for media access for the "first time" in the convention's history, according to a news release on Friday.
Credentialed influencers will have a chance to interview campaign surrogates and VIP guest speakers.
The Biden campaign and the Democratic Party hope that allowing influencers such access will help get their message out to young voters.
"Creators have revolutionized the way Americans consume information and content, and their innovations will continue to play a critical role in how the American people view not only this election cycle, but every election cycle moving forward," said Cayana Mackey-Nance, the director of digital strategy for the Democratic Convention in a statement.
"We are leveling the playing field between content creators and traditional media, and ensuring that more Americans than ever before are able to experience and engage with this critical part of our Democratic process," she added.
The Democratic National Convention begins in Chicago on Aug. 19.
