Donald Trump officially becomes the Republican nominee
Sen. J.D. Vance from Ohio has been announced as his running mate.
Former President Donald Trump was just announced on Monday as the Republican nominee on the first day of the GOP convention, securing all 1,215 delegates needed.
Eric Trump, one of Donald Trump's sons, made the official announcement as the leader of the Florida delegation. Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., and daughter Tiffany Trump were next to their brother for the announcement.
"We hereby nominate every single one of [Florida's 125 delegates] for the greatest president that's ever lived, and that's Donald J. Trump, hereby declaring him the Republican nominee for president of the United States of America," Eric Trump said from the convention floor, CBS News reported.
The nomination comes after his strongest competitor Nikki Haley released her share of the delegates in order to unite behind Donald Trump. Haley had received 95 delegates during the Republican primaries before she suspended her campaign.
Sen. J.D. Vance from Ohio has been announced as Donald Trump's running mate. He was later confirmed as the vice presidential nominee at the Republican convention in a vote by acclamation.
