Rep. Julia Letlow is advancing to a Republican Senate primary runoff in Louisiana after a primary Saturday that ousted a sitting GOP senator who voted for President Donald Trump's impeachment five years ago.

Letlow will face state Treasurer John Fleming in the June 27 runoff.

Incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy failed to advance to the runoff, finishing third and becoming the first incumbent senator to lose in a primary in more than a decade.

Letlow was endorsed by Trump, who immediately crowed about Cassidy's ouster.

"That’s what you get by voting to Impeach an innocent man, especially one who made it possible for Cassidy’s Senate win," he said. "Very disloyal."
