Newsom: Harris didn't steal 'no tax on tips' from Trump
“Kamala has no imagination, whatsoever, as shown by the fact that she played ‘COPYCAT’ with, NO TAXES ON TIPS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., told Just the News that Vice President Kamala Harris didn't steal the "no tax on tips" proposal from former President Trump.
The 2024 GOP presidential nominee said at campaign events that he would end income tax on tipped wages and accused Harris of copying him.
“Kamala has no imagination, whatsoever, as shown by the fact that she played ‘COPYCAT’ with, NO TAXES ON TIPS!” he wrote on Truth Social.
“How long will it be before Kamala Harris comes out with another TRUMP policy like, ‘No Taxes will be paid by our Senior Citizens on Social Security?’ She’s looking really bad now! Everyone is waiting to see what idea, or policy of mine, she will copy next,” he added.
Newsom was asked for his reaction to Trump has stole the idea.
"Oh god. I mean, this has been out there for years and years. It's typical of Trump, but again, it's a golden oldie for any of us have been in the business going back decades, and it's got a little history in my state, former president of the United States [Reagan] comes from California, but this is something unions have long been talking about in Nevada, so in some ways, I think he stole the idea from them," Newsom said in an interview at the Democratic National Convention.
Newsom said the tax on tips debate dates back to former President Ronald Reagan.
"We were never supposed to be taxing tips, something the unions have been advocating for, for years, and I align with Harris' proposal, and I'm glad it's getting some renewed focus and energy," he said.
