In Pennsylvania, Fetterman leading Oz by 9 points among likely voters

Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman (D) currently holds a 9-point lead over his Republican opponent in the upcoming Senate race, former TV-doctor Mehmet Oz, according to a new poll.

Among likely voters, Fetterman has 46% of the count, while Oz trails at 37% – 13% remain undecided at this time. 

Fetterman's numbers indicate what was already known, which is that Pennsylvania will be a closely watched race as Democrats attempt to flip the seat currently held by retiring GOP Senator Pat Toomey and Republicans fight to hang on to it with an unconventional candidate.

In days following former hedgefunder David McCormick's concession to Oz after a tight race, Republican voters have begun to more uniformly back Oz. According to the poll, conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University, 76% of GOP voters say they will support Oz in the general election. 

Among all voters polled, the economy remains the top issue in the election, which will likely be bad news for Democrats come November as the Biden administration struggles to confront the economic issues facing the nation. 

In the Pennsylvania gubernatorial race, the state's attorney general Josh Shapiro is polling just four points ahead of GOP state Sen. Doug Mastriano, who is running on a platform that highlights election integrity as a central issue. Mastriano is also currently backed by a higher percentage (83%) of GOP voters than Oz – (82% of Democrats say they are supporting Shapiro). 

The poll, which was conducted earlier this week among 500 likely general election voters in Pennsylvania, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points, putting Shapiro's lead over Mastriano within that range.
