Progressive senators rally behind Harris, criticize Trump, Vance
Warren took Trump and Vance to task over abortion, while Sanders pledged to "do everything" to get Harris elected
Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Sunday criticized the Trump-Vance campaign on abortion and gave firm support to Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign, respectively.
Warren pushed back on Sunday against a claim by Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, that former President Donald Trump would veto a federal abortion ban, The Hill reported.
"American women are not stupid, and we are not going to trust the futures of our daughters and granddaughters to two men who have openly bragged about blocking access to abortion for women all across this country," Warren said on NBC News’s Meet the Press.
Warren highlighted Vance's past support for using the Comstock Act to ban mailing the abortion pill.
Last year, Vance joined other Republican lawmakers in a letter to the Department of Justice asking the agency to "shut down all mail-order operations" of abortion pill providers under the Comstock Act.
Sanders said on Sunday he would "do everything" possible to help Harris win in November, The Hill reported.
"I think the vice president now has a very good chance to win it. She's certainly going to win the popular vote by millions of votes, and I think she has a great chance to win many of the battleground states. And I intend to do everything that I can to see that she wins," Sanders said on ABC News’s This Week.
Sanders spoke about the "very high" energy at the Democratic National Convention and his belief that people are becoming "tired and fatigued" with Trump.
