Tim Walz accepts vice presidential debate invitation
Walz said he would debate Vance on Oct. 1, an event which will be moderated by CBS News in New York City.
Democratic Vice Presidential hopeful Tim Walz on Wednesday accepted an invitation to debate former President Donald Trump's running mate Sen. JD Vance in October.
Vice President Kamala Harris announced Walz, who is the governor of Minnesota, as her running mate last week. But he has since been embroiled in a "stolen valor" controversy, after he claimed he retired as a rank higher than he actually did. He also claimed he was a combat veteran, despite never being stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Walz said he would debate Vance on Oct. 1, an event which will be moderated by CBS News in New York City, according to the outlet. But Vance has not accepted the debate invitation so far, or agreed to the date. If Vance is not able to partake in the debate on Oct. 1, CBS has proposed Sept. 17, Sept. 24, and Oct. 8 as alternative dates.
Harris and Trump are expected to debate each other on Sept. 10, in a debate hosted by ABC News.
