A school-aged child in West Texas dies from measles amid the growing outbreak in the state. 

The child was unvaccinated and hospitalized in Lubbock, Texas. It is unknown how old the child was or where they went to school. 

This is the first measles death a woman in Washington state died from it in 2015, according to CNN.

The Texas Department of Health Services said Tuesday that there are 124 confirmed measles cases, with most being children ages five to 17.

Last week, it was only 34 cases. 

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that they are following the epidemic closely. 

Measles can cause a fever, a cough and a rash. Severe cases have resulted in some going blind or getting pneumonia.
