Canadian Prime Minister's wife tests positive for coronavirus
The prime minister has no symptoms but voluntarily go into isolation for 14 days.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau on Thursday tested positive for the coronavirus.
The prime minister had announced that his wife had recently come home after being in the United Kingdom, and that she would be tested for the virus. He said they would both be isolating themselves as they awaited the test results.
"Sophie recently returned from a speaking event in the UK, and last night she was experiencing mild flu-like symptoms," Trudeau tweeted. "She‘s feeling better, but following the advice of our doctor she is self-isolating as we wait on COVID-19 test results."
The prime minister's communications director published a statement Thursday evening, stating that "following medical advice, she will remain in isolation for the time being." The statement said that "She is feeling well, is taking all the recommended precautions and her symptoms remain mild."
"The Prime Minister is in good health with no symptoms," the statement said. "As a precautionary measure and following the advice of doctors, he will be in isolation for a planned period of 14 days. Also on the advice of doctors, he will not be tested at this stage since he has no symptoms."
