Biden says Israel is losing global support over 'indiscriminate' Gaza bombing
"He has to change this government," Biden said in reference to Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu.
President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that Israel is losing support worldwide due to its "indiscriminate" bombing of Gaza, and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should consider making changes.
"Israel's security can rest on the United States, but right now it has more than the United States. It has the European Union, it has Europe, it has most of the world ... But they're starting to lose that support by indiscriminate bombing that takes place," Biden said during a meeting with donors, Reuters reports.
Since the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel by Hamas, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) have retaliated and in the process, killed 18,000 people, according to Gaza officials.
Both sides had a temporary truce for seven days where hostages taken by Hamas and prisoners taken by Israel were released before resuming the war.
During a meeting with donors to his 2024 re-election campaign, Biden reportedly said that Netanyahu needed to make changes to his government.
"He [Netanyahu] has to change this government. This government in Israel is making it very difficult," he said.
He also added that at the end of the day, Israel "can't say no" to a Palestinian state.
"We have an opportunity to begin to unite the region ... and they still want to do it. But we have to make sure that Bibi [Netanyahu] understands that he's got to make some moves to strengthen... You cannot say no Palestinian state... That's going to be the hard part," Biden said.
