US skier Lindsey Vonn crashes in final race before Winter Olympics, putting comeback into question
The 41-year-old Olympian injured her left knee. In 2024, She had partial knee replacement surgery in her right knee.
U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn crashed Friday on in her final race before the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, putting the 41-year-old's comeback into question.
She fell about 20 seconds into her run on the Crans-Montana course in Switzerland as the overall standings leader in the women’s downhill competition, according to Yahoo Sports.
Vonn was unable to finish the race but was able to ski off the course. She was the third starter out of the first six to crash out of the race, which was suspended after she crashed.
Vonn, who is seeking her second Olympic gold in Italy, injured her left leg and knee, her coach said.
She was reportedly airlifted from the mountain for a follow-up examination to further determine the extent of her injuries.
Vonn retired in 2020 and began a comeback in 2024 after having partial knee replacement surgery in her right knee in April of that year.
Earlier this season, she became the oldest downhill World Cup winner.
