Repentance? LA Dodgers to hold 'Christian Faith and Family Day' amid backlash over pride plans

The Los Angeles Dodgers baseball will relaunch its "Christian Faith and Family Day" amid mounting backlash over its plans to host an LGBT-themed event that includes a drag group known to satirize Roman Catholicism.

Pitcher Clayton Kershaw announced the development on Twitter. Kershaw himself is a practicing Christian and vocal about his faith.

The Dodgers last hosted the event in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Fox News noted.

"Excited to announce the relaunch of Christian Faith and Family Day at Dodger Stadium on July 30th," Kershaw stated. "More details to come— but we are grateful for the opportunity to talk about Jesus and determined to make it bigger and better than it was before COVID. Hope to see you on July 30th!"

The Dodgers are slated to play the Cincinnati Reds on that day.

Christian Faith and Family Day's return to the stadium follows a raucous news cycle for the Dodgers over its handling of a pride night set to occur on June 16. Though many teams have increasingly adopted such a practice, the Dodgers drew particular concern for their decision to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence group that features "queer and trans nuns."

The Dodgers backtracked in the face of public outcry, though subsequent outrage from the LGBT community prompted to again reverse course and honor the organization. That event is still slated to occur.
