GOP senator says Harris should try answering press questions for more than 1 hour like Trump
"I think his ability to stand in front of a hostile media and answer questions for over an hour is something I would love to see Kamala Harris try to do," says Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo.
Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo. said on Tuesday that he would like to see Vice President Kamala Harris hold a news conference for more than one hour like former President Trump has done.
Schmitt noted that voters have not seen Harris answer media questions in an unscripted setting since she emerged as the presumptive Democratic nominee after Biden dropped out on July 20.
"I think his ability to stand in front of a hostile media and answer questions for over an hour is something I would love to see Kamala Harris try to do," Schmitt said on CNN.
"He‘s the only candidate running for President of the United States willing to stand in front of the media and answer questions. Kamala Harris refuses to do it. And, you know, she‘s got a Time magazine cover that came out today. She refused to do the interview for the puff piece," he added.
John Berman, the CNN host in the segment, told Schmitt that the network wants a chance to ask Harris questions.
"We would absolutely like to ask her questions," he said.
Vice President Kamala Harris told reporters last week that she plans to schedule a sit-down interview before the end of August but her campaign still has not scheduled a news conference.
“I’ve talked to my team. I want us to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month,” Harris said during an informal gaggle with the press on her way to Arizona on Thursday.
Trump held a news conference last Thursday at Mar-a-Lago.
"She can't do an interview; she's barely competent," Trump said of Harris ahead of the press conference.
Harris and Trump are scheduled for their first debate on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC.
