Nikki Haley makes surprise 'Saturday Night Live' appearance as she mocks Trump
Haley was received with cheers as she took jabs at Trump.
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley made a surprise appearance on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" in a skit mocking former President Donald Trump's mental competency, legal battles and resistance to debate.
In a mock CNN Town Hall with Trump, who was portrayed by James Austin Johnson, Haley stood up as a "concerned South Carolina voter" and asked, "Why won’t you debate Nikki Haley?" as the audience cheered.
Johnson, playing Trump, called Haley "Nancy Pelosi," to which she responded: "Are you doing OK, Donald? You might need a mental competency test."
Haley, 52, has pushed for mental competency tests for politicians over the age of 75, as Trump and President Joe Biden will be 78 and 82, respectively, by the next presidential inauguration.
The skit also poked fun at Trump's legal battles, including how his political groups paid more than $50 million of his legal bills last year and how he was ordered to pay author E. Jean Carroll more than $83 million this year.
The fake town hall was based in South Carolina, where Haley served as governor from 2011 to 2017, even though polls suggest she is significantly behind the former president in her home state. However, the skit acknowledged that Haley is behind there, and she pointed out that Trump did not win his home state of New York in the last presidential election.
The skit also gave Haley a chance to address how she omitted the word "slavery" when she was asked in December about the cause of the Civil War.
"I probably should have said that at the time," Haley said about how she did not mention "slavery" in her answer nearly two months ago.
