Rubio 'hasn't spoken to anybody' about being Trump's VP
Speculation over Trump's choice of running mate has accelerated to some degree after Trump locked up enough delegates to claim the party nomination earlier this month.
Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio on Thursday indicated he had not discussed the prospect of becoming former President Donald Trump's running mate with anyone, but appeared open to doing so should he receive the nod.
Speculation over Trump's choice of running mate has accelerated to some degree after Trump locked up enough delegates to claim the party nomination earlier this month. Rubio previously ran against Trump for the GOP nomination in 2016, but generally maintained cordial relations with him during the Republican administration.
"Never once have I talked to [Trump] about vice presidency," Rubio told Politico. He did, however, appear to indicate that he would consider the job.
"If anybody has been offered the chance to be vice president, they should consider that an honor and an incredible opportunity to serve our country. But that hasn’t happened, I haven’t spoken to anybody on his campaign about it," he added.
Apart from Rubio, South Carolina GOP Sen. Tim Scott, South Dakota GOP Gov. Kristi Noem, and New York GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik have attracted considerable attention as potential VPs.
