Trump heads to Biden's Pennsylvania birthplace, continues to shadow rival ahead of big speech
President Trump's campaign troll-trail will continue this afternoon in the town of Joe Biden's birth
President Trump travels Thursday to Joe Biden's Scranton, Pennsylvania, hometown to argue what he considers his White House rival's 40 years of political failure, according to the Trump reelection campaign.
The rally is just part of Trump's all-out effort this week to provide a counter narrative to Biden, the Democrats' presidential nominee, and the Democratic National Convention, which concludes Thursday with Biden's nomination acceptance speech.
On Wednesday night, Trump essentially used Twitter to live blog his responses – sometimes in all caps – to speeches critical of him including ones by former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who Trump upset in the 2016 White House race.
As vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris accepted her nomination, Trump tweeted, "BUT DIDN'T SHE CALL [Biden] HIM A RACIST??? DIDN'T SHE SAY HE WAS INCOMPETENT???," referring to several comments Harris made on debate stages during the 2020 Democratic primary in which she faced Biden.
Beyond Pennsylvania, Trump this week is also swing states Arizona, Minnesota and Wisconsin, site to the Democratic convention.
“Joe Biden is hiding and taking voters for granted but the Trump campaign won’t make the same mistake. Biden’s socialist agenda would kill jobs and hurt families in the Keystone State, which is exactly why he won’t confront voters in his hometown," said Samantha Zager, a spokeswoman for the Trump reelect campaign.
The Biden campaign said in response to Trump's planned address this afternoon: “This sideshow is a pathetic attempt to distract from the fact that Trump’s presidency stands for nothing but crises, lies, and division."
